This, my friend, is an absolutely BOMB (read: delicious) post-workout smoothie, and one of my faves.
Post workout it is essential to give your body the right nutrients to rebuild and repair, and depending on your goals, the right macronutrients need to be included or avoided to optimize your progress too. If your goal is health, but don’t care about getting leaner, or building muscle without adding fat, then simply eating ‘clean’ is good enough.
But, if your goals are to maximize fat loss and/or maintain or build lean muscle and improve your body composition, you’re going to want to get carbs and proteins and fats at the right times of the day (see my DIY meal plan outline for a general nutrient timing).
Post workout, for example, you want to refuel with lean protein and carbohydrates, but avoid fats as much as possible, because fat isn’t the easiest nutrient to digest. The goal here is fast nutrient absorption. Gotta get the fuel to the muscles asap!
That’s why I love this recipe so much! It’s fat-free (or very low fat depending on the brand of whey protein you use), full of protein and simple carbs (fast digesting) and other micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) for optimal muscle repair and recovery!
It’s ridiculously easy to make and clean up if you have a personal blender (Ex: Magic Bullet, Vitamix, Nutribullet, etc), but any blender will work.

Banana-Berry Post-Workout Smoothie
- 1 medium banana (126g)
- 1/2 frozen strawberries
- 1/4 frozen blueberries

- 1 scoop organic greens powder
- water to blend (start with 1/2 c and add as needed to reach desired consistency)
Blend all ingredients together and divide into 2 equal servings: makes 2 servings.
