Today I turned down two more big opportunities for supplement company sponsorships. Let me explain…
Athlete sponsorships usually offer everything from free product to total fitness competition expense coverage to coverage plus salary…and I’ve turned down multiple VERY well known company sponsorships in the past.
That said, I do believe I earned their respect and interest. I have been competing since 2009, nationally qualified in all but two of my shows, and one of those two shows I missed qualification by ONE placing. But…competing is expensive, and National level shows are even more expensive and they are mostly if not all money out/no money in. So, I have only been able to compete at one of the National level shows I have qualified for, and that was only because of a rag-tag combination of supportive friends and small one-time-only sponsorships. Not saying this to boo-hoo my inability to finance such an expensive sport, but to share with you why I turned down the companies who would have gotten me there.
I have learned a lot about nutrition since I started my fitness career in 2006–7. It’s fascinating. I’ve gotten certified as a sports nutritionist and am constantly continuing my education.
That said, over those same years I’ve built a brand. That brand was built on a solid foundation of science, honesty and integrity. That brand and my name and likeness attached to it, Rachel Elizabeth’s Cause Fitness: Fitness for Effect™, is all-natural. I’ve learned enough to know that your body is a very intricate and highly intelligent creation, and it only functions optimally when given enough of the right nutrients from real/natural foods and supplements, rest, and proper hydration. How then, could I ever justify associating my brand or face with any company who uses artificial ingredients, chemicals and artificial sweeteners in their product.
Also, the FDA does not cover supplements (too many, and too many variables, etc.) so I have to be (and choose to be) extremely critical of the people who build a brand as well as the product they carry or want me to endorse. Ask Craig, the guy who convinced me to endorse Nerium, a plant-based anti-aging creme, how long it took him to prove to me that Nerium was a product I could share with confidence? And that’s just a topical creme! I course I’m going to be extremely picky about what goes INSIDE my body, and I would never endorse a product or brand I didn’t personally use, love, and find stands up to my brand in standards of integrity. (Phew!…BREATHE…that’s a lotta passion).
I share this because I want to gain and keep your trust. A lot is going to happen in the next year and its extremely important to me that I uphold every shred of your confidence in my character, especially because in the case of, let’s say, a reality show, the producers have a LOT of say in how “individuals” are portrayed on TV. I also want you to know this so that you know I always have your best interest and your health in mind when I post fitness/nutrition articles here on my site and when I share a product, brand or service with you, so you can confidently make consumer decisions for your health and lifestyle, and in turn, share them with your friends and family to help cause a fitness effect!
That’s all. Thank you for subscribing, following, reading, liking the work that I do and the things that I share, and thank you most of all for your trust. I do not and will not ever take that lightly.
Thank you. I appreciate and love you all!
