“Rachel has been so much more than a trainer to me.  I began train­ing with Rachel in Octo­ber of 2010, dur­ing a time in my life when I had made some large changes, and was left feel­ing a lit­tle torn down and confused… 

Rachel saw some­thing in me that I did not yet see myself; she saw my eager­ness to improve and to learn, and she helped bring out the best in me.  She moti­vated and encour­aged me to reach for my dreams, and never back down.  Most impor­tantly, Rachel helped me over­come all of the chal­lenges that life had thrown at me.

 

In Decem­ber 2010, she pre­sented to me with idea of com­pet­ing at the Emer­ald Cup in April. I knew that it would be a chal­lenge, but I knew that I could con­quer that chal­lenge with Rachel by my side.  Train­ing for Emer­ald Cup was a remark­able and life-changing expe­ri­ence for me.  There were count­less times when I wanted to throw in the towel and give up, but Rachel believed in me, so she gave me strength when I was weak and helped instill faith when all I had was doubt.  It was also dur­ing this time, that Rachel intro­duced me to the world of fit­ness mod­el­ing.  Within six months of train­ing with her, she had com­pletely trans­formed my body, my rela­tion­ship with food, and had intro­duced me to body build­ing shows and mod­el­ing (two fields that I am still very inter­ested in and purusing).  

What I loved about train­ing with Rachel, and what made me con­tinue to do Vir­tual Train­ing after I had moved from Seat­tle to Las Vegas, was that she was so invested in each and every one of her clients.  She brings out the best in peo­ple, and helps peo­ple through all of their life jour­neys.  Fur­ther­more, she shares her knowl­edge and rea­son­ing behind every­thing she does; she explains the sci­ence behind both the nutri­tion and the train­ing aspects of fit­ness.  And she will go into as much detail as you desire (some­times much more than you can wrap your head around!).  

Even dur­ing the hia­tus I took from train­ing this past year, Rachel still checked in on me, and made sure that I was doing alright.  After tak­ing about a six month break from train­ing, I started back with Rachel via her Vir­tual Train­ing pro­gram.  Her Vir­tual Train­ing pro­gram still offered me all of the account­abil­ity that I needed.  She was always a text or e-mail away, and would tweak my pro­gram or give me point­ers after every weight check-in or progress pic­ture update.  She helped me make leaps and bounds of progress in what seemed like the blink of an eye.  So of course, when I moved back home to Seat­tle this past May, I knew that I would need to get back to train­ing in per­son with her for the lit­tle period of her time in Seat­tle that remained!  

Dur­ing the month and a half of train­ing that I had in Seat­tle with her, she helped me com­pletely trans­form my body.  I made progress every sin­gle week in terms of putting on mus­cle and drop­ping body fat, and I owe it all to the guid­ance of Rachel.

So, as I said ear­lier, Rachel has been much more than a trainer to me in the past year and a half that I have known her.  She has been a trainer, a men­tor, a friend, and an “older sis­ter”.  She has helped me grow so much as both an ath­lete and a per­son.  I can­not empha­size enough what an amaz­ing expe­ri­ence train­ing with her has been.  I am grate­ful every sin­gle day to have her in my life, and I can­not even imag­ine where I would be right now with­out her.”  (Com­posed July 2012)

“On Octo­ber 6th I met with Rachel with a clear goal; to loose body fat.  Rachel mea­sured me and we deter­mined that I was 10% body fat.  I made the deci­sion that I wanted to get down to 5–6 per­cent by the end of our time together and that is where this story really begins.  Every Tues­day and Thurs­day for 6 weeks I ven­tured into the stu­dio for what I liked to call “the beat out.”  It was called this because I told Rachel to beat it out every ses­sion and when I start to give out or up say what­ever she wanted to make me mad and pump me up…..and she did!  As Rachel got the plea­sure of “beat­ing it out” I got the plea­sure of watch­ing my body trans­form and start to take shape of some­thing remark­able.  Mus­cles that were hid­ing behind oth­ers came around the cor­ner and started to become erect and fat that kept me warm started to fall off.  I will too say with­out hes­i­ta­tion that these ses­sions were not only about phys­i­cal train­ing it was also about men­tal relax­ation.  After deal­ing with the hard real­i­ties of work and life I could go into my world, my dream, and just relax.  I had many friends in “my” world; like the big pink ball, and the midget step-ups who often paid my vis­its!  I left the gym after each ses­sion not only feel­ing good phys­i­cally but also relaxed men­tally ready to face those chal­lenges with a clearer more focused mind. After those 6 weeks I went from just under 10% body fat to 5% and am not stop­ping till I hit 4!!!  If you have ever been won­der­ing if you should get train­ing, I am here today con­victed and real­ized that this deci­sion was one of the best deci­sions I have ever made.  If any­thing I would encour­age you to try it out just to cre­ate your own world, and I promise that you will start to develop new skills that will truly make you a bet­ter person.”

At age 68, I’m prob­a­bly one of her old­est  clients and one with whom she had major chal­lenges.  I have severe arthri­tis in both knees and a per­sis­tent shoul­der injury.  Addi­tion­ally, as a result of increas­ing immo­bil­ity and my own “food issues”  I was not the usual work and loose the weight client. 

No mat­ter what the com­plaint (or mood), Rachel was always pos­i­tive and cre­ative.  Dur­ing my time with her, I was able to get stronger than I ever imag­ined pos­si­ble, find new inspi­ra­tion on the row­ing machine (those inter­vals were killers) and keep going when I really wanted to chuck it all.

Not only is Rachel a skilled, cre­ative and car­ing trainer, she’s a won­der­ful moti­va­tor.  It’s the “give me 5 more” “you can do it—grrrrrr” rou­tine that gives me the strength and con­fi­dence to work harder.  She had so many lit­tle “tricks” to work around my bad knees, that I often told her to make a demo of work­ing around chronic injuries.

I don’t think it’s entirely pos­si­ble to put into words the won­der­ful train­ing bond and friend­ship, all within pro­fes­sional bound­aries, which we shared.  I saw her more than my own chil­dren, and she more than her own Mom.  So I feel par­tic­u­larly grate­ful for all her efforts to improve my fit­ness and health.  She put up with end­less brag pho­tos of my grand­kids, and I watched her develop, artic­u­late, and work so hard to real­ize her life fit­ness dreams.  I wish her only the best.
